I do not support the amendments to the green belt. As a public health professional in Kingston, I work in the intersection of public health and urban design. In short (so this actually gets read) continuing to fraction off the forest for the sake of urban sprawl increases our exposure to vector borne Illnesses by destroying/infiltrating into ecological systems; increases need/use, and reliance on cars; and ultimately removes natural green systems that help combat urban heat domes in the peak of summer months. If we are going to build more homes we need to densify our existing communities, make them walkable, with public and active transportation options. We do not need additional urban sprawl and reliance on cars. This is plan is 1970’s era thinking and does not propose a sustainable, viable solution to the challenges of housing access in Ontario.
