It is absolutely disgusting what the Ford government has planned for the Greenbelt. We should be preserving it at all costs and instead, he is backing down from his promise not to touch it. Not only will it be wasted for housing that is not the type of housing we need nor in the financial brackets of people who need housing, but also for a redundant highway — all at the expense of several species, like the Red-headed woodpecker, that are already endangered. Changes to the Greenbelt will result in loss of wetlands, forest, marshes. The highway will run through sensitive headwaters and destroy three birding hotspots. There are lots of species (land-based and aquatic) that are at risk with the threat of any destruction of the Greenbelt.
He is only thinking of his pocketbook and not at all towards the future of Ontarians. It's shameful to say the least.
