1. Ford promised he would not touch the greenbelt. He is now trying to touch it.
2. The “more homes built faster” Act doesn’t build the right kind of homes to address the housing crisis in Ontario. Big cities like Toronto and smaller cities like Peterborough have growing homeless populations. Those who would benefit from the homes this act appears geared to are people who can afford to buy a house, not the more vulnerable and growing population of homeless people across the province.
3. Developers will benefit to the detriment of municipalities as development fees will be lost as a revenue stream. Who will pay for municipal infrastructure repair and renewal? The people of Ontario…making buying a home even more unaffordable.
4. Last comment…Before this act is passed, there needs to be a third party investigation into the companies who bought greenbelt land before this legislation was introduced…much reporting suggests that these developers knew about the changes currently before the legislature.
