I oppose the development of highway 413. This highway is not a step forward toward a clean and green future. The production of a new highway would only increase our GHG emissions. Additionally, the implications on the health of the citizens living near highways should also be considered. Living near highways can increase asthma attacks among children, impair lung function, and cause premature death from cardiovascular diseases. The development of this highway would also impact the surrounding wildlife, as oncoming cars can drastically increase their mortality rates. Alternative, healthier forms of transportation should be considered before the development of this million-dollar highway. Better public transportation with high-speed trains would be far more advantageous to the overall health of the citizens of Ontario.
