I do not support the proposed amendments to the Greenbelt Plan. The long-term impacts of removing additional land from the Greenbelt have not been adequately considered. We do not need or want more suburban sprawl outside the GTA boundaries. Rather, we should look at ways to increase population density in the existing urban/suburban areas and try to minimize the need for more vehicle traffic in the region.
These proposed amendments should be withdrawn until a more thorough assessment can be done.
I also am very suspicious of the way the individual parcels were identified for exclusion from the Greenbelt. It appears that developers stand to gain financially, based on information they had in hand prior to the government of Ontario advancing the proposal.
