This plan does nothing to really address the housing shortage. Low income housing which is what is needed, for example apartments, need to be close to support networks, hospitals, family services, etc. These are located close to the core of cities and towns, and generally are close to public transit. Building on the green belt doesn’t help low income families. As mentioned in a newspaper article showing one of Toronto’s main streets, possibly Bloor Street, conversion of old two to three story buildings into more modern low cost apartments makes more sense for the reasons I mentioned previously. Besides if the plan is to house the many immigrants to support the need for workers in Ontario, how will they afford to live in green belt areas. Most move to areas where they have family or friends. So there will be low demand to live there. Most of the areas to be developed are sensitive areas that once disturbed cannot be reverted back, so this plan has significant impact on each person in Ontario. Some rely on these lands for business, health, recreation, etc. Even the Premier stated it’s importance when he said he wouldn’t touch the greenbelt. This plan will only benefit a few already rich developers and impact thousands, mostly in a negative way. Thank you for your time.
