I do not think it is wise to remove any lands from the existing Greenbelt in Ontario. The governments own task force has made it clear that enough land is available within present urban boundaries to meet future building needs. Reducing our present Greenbelt boundaries will not help us to reach our climate goals, will reduce biodiversity, will remove prime farm land near to our urban population and will create more urban sprawl. The expert planners and scientists tell us that this plan to build on the Greenbelt is very ill advised. The plan is to replace the lost Greenbelt with other lands. This does not make sense - the ecological functions of the lost land is needed in those locations where it presently exists. For example these Greenbelt areas provide wildlife corridors, these lands provide flood control and water purification functions. You can not simply protect green spaces that are kilometres away and get the same results.
This is change in our Greenbelt plan is in direct opposition to decades of careful and thoughtful planning that has happened in Ontario. It is not in the best interest of people and the natural Environment that supports us.
