I am very disturbed by the proposal to reduce development costs, and believe it will ultimately defeat the stated goal of everyone in Ontario finding a home that is right for them, and which "meets their family's needs"

Development charges pay for the infrastructure and services that make a home which meets a family's needs and is "right for them." Without clean water, sewage treatment, electricity, police and fire protection, a home will not be "right" for its occupants. No one lives 24 hours a day, 7 days a week inside their home. This didn't happen, even in the pandemic -- except maybe in China. Without parks, libraries, public health, early years and child care provisions, a home, by itself, cannot meet a family's needs.

But if development charges are cut as proposed, municipalities will not be able to adequately supply these services.

In the short run, developers and home builders may be able to throw up houses quickly and increase their profit margin. But in the long run, no one will want to live in a community which is inadequately serviced.

Already, municipalities are struggling to pay for infrastructure repairs and upgrades. They are forced to rely on the Ponzi scheme of growth-generated development charges, when what is really needed is ongoing provincial support for infrastructure and community service maintenance.

The proposed cuts will make a bad situation much worse. Please rethink this!
