I am writing to ask you to support the Waterloo Regional Official Plan. As you know, the Region of Waterloo has managed very well to accommodate its fast-growing population. Its plans include continuing to do so as it continues to grow by encouraging high and medium density housing in its cities and in the urban portions of the Townships, all in accordance with provincial requirements. (I can currently watch the construction of three high-rise buildings, ranging from six to 23 stories, from the windows of my building in the City of Waterloo.)
One of the great virtues of the Region’s planning is that it accommodates current and future growth while also preserving the quality of life we enjoy and value here, with safe, well-protected groundwater and the greenspace required for a healthy population and natural environment. Furthermore, it protects some of the best farmland in Canada—an essential asset to the productivity and prosperity of Ontario as well as a major source of food for the province. It is a progressive, resilient, smart plan of which Ontario should be proud, as we in the Region are. Please support the Waterloo Regional Official Plan.
