I am opposed to this proposal unless the proponent and the Ministry can provide adequate assurance to the Township and residents of Oro-Medonte that this will not negatively impact the availability and quality of water to the many residential users in the immediate vicinity and on the Oro Moraine in the long term.

The residents or Oro-Medonte rely on water from aquifers for their drinking water and other household uses. This proposal would allow Sarjeant to consume up to 130 million liters of water per year from aquifers on the Oro-Moraine. This is a significant quantity of water and when combined with other aggregate producers and other heavy users (eg: water bottling) in the vicinity, place a huge drain on these aquifers.

These for-profit businesses that consume vast quantities of water potentially put our residential water supply at risk.

I believe considering a request such as this the Ministry assumes a responsibility to ensure an adequate supply of water to support existing residential users and those future users as mandated by the province’s housing growth plans.

If the local water supply runs dry these businesses will move to new locations, leaving the residents and the municipality "high and dry".
