I am opposed to this proposal. With 84 charges outstanding I believe it is irresponsible to allow this company to again conduct a business handling hazardous materials before this matter has been resolved in the courts, particularly since a man died as a direct result of this fire. Surely the authorities who placed the charges against the company and its directors have good reason for doing so.
The location of this fire in January of 2023 is very close to my home and we were forced to evacuate following notification by the police. The ensuing cleanup has been going on for 9 months and the entire situation has been disruptive for the Port Weller East community. As of today, Sept 25, 2023 the work at this site continues.
If the MOE has monitored this company and site in the past to ensure a safe environment for employees and residents alike then the inspections have been an abject failure. If the MOE has not been monitoring this company and site then there must be an inquiry as to "why not".
A man died as a direct result of this fire and I strongly believe that this tragedy must be fully investigated and processed through he courts BEFORE ANY decisions about hazardous materials being handled by this company on this property are even considered.
