My family lives a few minutes from these proposed developments & it's no wonder there has been such vehement protests against this further over development of this area. I left my home @ 9 a.m. to get to a doctor's appointment in Dundas, assuming that 'rush hour' would be winding down. It wasn't. Wilson St. West was bumper to bumper as far as the eye could see. Traffic was backing up on the side street I was on. I had already avoided my own street @ Wilson St. because of traffic parked on both sides of my street because of a huge development on Wilson St. W,. Those cars belong to workers on the huge development & that has been the case for over 2 years now. It is a hazard to children walking to school, (there are 2 schools @ the opposite end of our street & other pedestrians walking to stores & walking their dogs . Traffic was backing up on the side street & it took several minutes for cars to get on to Wilson St. It was only because some considerate drivers paused to let us out. What is going to happen when that huge development is finally inhabited ? What's going to happen if those lands near the airport are home to 1000's & 1000's of more people ? Many of the new residents will be using Fiddler's Green to get to Wilson St. to get to the 403 or to Hamilton, Dundas, or Brantford. Garner Rd. is now also over burdened with traffic. I don't want my municipal taxes to increase dramatically to service 1000's of new dwellings, plus the cost of new schools & other services. There is Enough available land in the GHA to house many more people without making highways out of existing roads, paving over our agricultural lands , & taking away our green areas that cleanse the air, & our water & provide homes for birds & wildlife. The homes that will likely be provided will not be affordable to those who currently are desperate for affordable housing. Nothing in these development plans is worthy of consideration because they will solve none of the current problems & create even worse problems.
