Hello,

My name is James Tilley. I work for Killam Apartment REIT. Killam currently has 670 kW (DC) of roof top electricity projects complete in the province of Ontario and another 487 kW in progress. We are in favour of allowing virtual net metering. We have already have seen it successfully deployed most recently in Nova Scotia.

We had to cancel a 340 kW ground mount solar PV project at one of our seasonal resorts because of the high costs of merging our meters together and taking over the utilities infrastructure. Having a virtual net metering option could bring this project back to life.

Another instance where virtual net metering would have been helpful is with our Northfield Gardens property. We have a property made up of 6 three story buildings (274 units total) that is receiving 495 kW of solar PV divided between the 6 roofs. Each one requires an individual grid connection and scada. If virtual net metering was an option, we could have installed a ground mount system and maintained one grid connection and one scada, helping to reduce costs.

Killam is in favour of having a virtual net metering program for commercial solar in Ontario.
