While the proposal to recycle and reuse some of the material coming into this site sounds well intended, two aspects of the proposal are of immediate concern. The first is the introduction of hazardous waste (including asbestos-containing material) and the second is the matter of traffic and associated hazards. The impact of traffic will be felt well beyond the roads surrounding the site itself, and the prospect of industrial activity and the arrival of a steady stream of trucks 24/7 is cause for alarm. The residents of this rural community deserve to have clear answers to their questions, and a commitment from the Government of Ontario to take their interests--ie health and safety--into account.
