This proposed site is too close to the town of Dresden, Ontario and right next to Molly's Creek that feeds into the Sydenham River. At 1km this supposed facility is right on the doorstep of the good folks of Dresden who do not want this to press forward due to potential damage to waterwells, the fact that this area is within a flood zone and could hurt our environment, which houses many different types of endangered wildlife.
The amount of trucks needed for this operation is not sustainable for our roads, nor the town and there is considerable concern if materials like asbestos being processed at this area (again flood risk area). The sheer amount of this will in no doubt be a hindrance to those who actually live in Dresden and this site was a tile yard/incenerator that has sat inactive for YEARS. It was not intended for what York1 has planned and those who rely on waterwells could loose access to their only source of water if the area is disturbed.
I implore that this site not go forward for the good of our town and wildlife. Something apparently set up with different intentions years and years ago should not apply to a project of this magnitude. It is disrespectful to have a massive dump 1km from our town and our highschool is only a short distance from this location.
Our council just spoke tonight that there is no local place to take their future plans for leachate processing (both are maxed currently), causing yet another concern. York1 needs to move this project somewhere much further away, with better roads for their sheer scale and leave Dresden to be the peaceful, environmentally-respecting and historical landmark it is known for.
