To the Environmental Registry of Ontario,

I am writing to recommend that approval not be given to York1 Environmental Waste Solutions to operate a waste recycling depot near the small historic town of Dresden, Ontario. Not only will the proposed operations increase air and noise pollution from the very large number of trucks coming and going through the normally quiet town 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week, there is a serious threat of pollutants seeping into the nearby creek that flows into the Sydenham River. This river is host to endangered species and to 34 mussel species. The Sydenham is the most mussel diverse watershed in Canada.

This is a quote from sydenhamriver.on.ca:

"The Sydenham: A Key Biodiversity Area
In 2017, the East Sydenham River was designated one of 13 freshwater Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs) in Canada by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) because it supports a great diversity of freshwater species including five globally threatened mussels: the Northern Riffleshell, Snuffbox, Round Hickorynut, Salamander Mussel, and Rayed Bean. Key Biodiversity Areas are areas contributing significantly to the global persistence of biodiversity."

With climate change, increased instances of high rainfall and flooding would make it more likely that any "overflow areas" constructed by the company would be flooded and unknown substances from the used construction material would be washed into the nearby spring-fed creek.

As an Ontario resident and one who lives in a community on the Sydenham river, I ask that this company not be given approval to build this recycling plant in the proposed location.

Thank you.
