The proposal to reopen a closed dump is heartily apposed by the residents of the town of Dresden located 1 km south of the property. The Company, York1 is trying to use a loop hole in a zoning permit that was applied to the property 60 years ago to allow the storage of ash fly to create a new mega dump. This property is very unsuited for the use being proposed.
It is located 20 km from the 401 and is also located 40km from the 402 these being the two closest major hwys. The company is suggested the site would be serviced daily by 700 trucks which means 1400 trips daily along country roads, roads that are used by 100's of school buses and large pieces of farm equipment. The pollution being created, the potential for accidents and the wear and tear on the infrastructure make the sites location totally unsuitable.
When you add in the potential for runoff into the creek behind the property which feeds the Sydenham river a ecological disaster is in the making.
The property is located too close to Dresden and is trying to infringe on farm land located North, South and East of the property. I think there may be a large resistance to having these properties rezoned from Agricultural to Commercial.
York1 is trying to short circuit the process of applying to get a new dump by piggybacking on a outdated permit and zoning bylaw. I believe Chatham-Kent will require the land to be rezoned to create a dump and it is doubtful that they will be successful in getting that property rezoned.
Thanks
