Dear Scott,
I am an angler but agree that these policies are necessary. I particularly favour the policies pertaining to bait usage in provincial parks. At least SOME areas need this level of protection, if not more.
I would like to see a complete ban on live bait in provincial parks, whether they are designated for recreation or not. Algonquin is a well-managed fishery and all of the province's parks ought to be managed similarly, with no live bait and barbless hooks (though ice fishing should probably still be permitted in parks with more fertile waters).
Fisheries are excessively strained by anglers who bring in a bucket of minnows, a tackle box full of lures with nine barbed hooks on each of them, and take home their limit every time out.
A rabble of shortsighted anglers will take issue with these policies, but I thank you for pushing them forward in the long-term interests of Ontario's fisheries.
Jon
