As a family group of 6 (3 generations) we used to take a canoe trip to Basswood Lake Minnesota/Ontario border lake and camped in Ontario for about 20 years, but due to the numerous restrictions placed on fishermen our group hasn't vacationed there in over 10 years. Simply put, the idea was to enjoy watching a slip bobber go down with a walleye or small mouth bass on the other end, it was a chance to relax, enjoy the scenery and play catch & release with nice fish and maybe keep a couple for shore lunch/dinner. But the no live bait and barbless hooks ban was the final straw for us, especially since on the Minnesota side OF THE SAME LAKE, none of the Ontario regulations were in effect. While I'm just speaking for 1 group of 6, I wonder how many other fishermen decided to spend their vacation dollars elsewhere? Has there been a decrease in tourism? Are bait shops/lodges/outfitters losing business because of the regulations? I just thought I'd share our group's feelings on the bait issue.
Thanks for the opportunity for our feedback,
