I am alarmed that the Ontario government is scrapping the Cap and Trade program. Putting a price on carbon emissions creates a strong incentive for businesses and individuals to conserve energy and to look for ways to move from fossil-based fuels. I can only hope that it will be replaced by an effective process to dramatically reduce carbon emissions in Ontario. We are conducting a global experiment that has uncertain results, but the conditions we are experiencing, especially in the Arctic, show that significant change is coming, and if we don't like the results, we can't go back. It is therefore irresponsible and unethical to continue to pump out carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. I urge this government to take serious action now, so that in 20 years from now, Ontario will be seen as a leader in action on climate change.
I am not including any supporting information. There is enough out there that is supported by the vast majority of climate scientists, and I have seen with my own eyes what the warming effect has had on our glaciers (you have to look at pictures from the 1920's to see why Crowsfoot Glacier is so named - it looks nothing like a crows foot now). The evidence is there, please act on it.
