The issues with this Bill 185 are the forced boundary expansions and denial of third party appeals to OLT. Both have negative consequences and are not democratic or consultative. Many hours of planning at great expense to municipalities and Regions have gone into the planning process with time spent on proper consultation. This cannot be ignored and tossed aside by this legislation!
The local people and planners know the area, the issues, the resources or lack of them, the history and the competing interests. The provincial level does not have the background or knowledge to override all these efforts!
Rescind the section of third party appeals to the OLT. Maintain democratic dialogue and rights!
Removing the errors made in Bill 109 is a good idea.
Get this one right in the first place. Allow third party appeals and respect the planning of lower tiers!
