I attended a public meeting with Condor and advisors held at Holland Christian Homes on April 30, 2024. They discussed the proposed construction at 545 Steeles Ave. West including apartment towers and retail. With the urgent need for housing in Brampton, this project will make a significant contribution to the community. We thank Condor for taking the time to share these plans.
Some concerns I raise with regard to the project:
1. Since we live at Holland Christian Homes (HCH) in an apartment facing the current College Plaza we envision a serious "wind tunnel" effect resulting in excessive winds hitting our apartment.
2. The proposed road into the new development has one entry from McLaughlin and one from Steeles Ave. W. For traffic moving north on McLaughlin, past HCH, making a left into the development could cause considerable back-up of traffic on McLaughlin. The presentation at the meeting talked of about 1,200 apartment units. What will be done to ensure the proper flow of traffic?
3. Presently there is pedestrian traffic from the Plaza entering the HCH campus on the south side of the plaza, near the Pizza shop. Too many plaza customers use this walk-through as a short cut through HCH property to Kingknoll to the south. HCH property should not be a thoroughfare for plaza customers. The passage way through the fence should be closed. A security wall should be built on the south perimeter of the mall continuously to the street sidewalk.
Thank you for giving attention to these concerns.
