I believe that the decision to end Ontario's participation in the Cap and Trade program is not within the long-term interest of the residents of Ontario. It is a short-sighted decision, that seems to be based more on political gain and showmanship, than actual facts. With the release of the latest IPCC report, I have a hard time believing that Cap and Trade can actually be cancelled in good conscious, without being replaced with another viable alternative. Saying that you will "make polluters pay" is not viable policy. Cap and Trade is. The decision to repeal Cap and Trade during this time, without another alternative is reckless and irresponsible. Political gains are short-term. Riling up the base is short-term. The repercussions of this decision are long-term and history will not judge this lack of action kindly.
