This whole issue has been clouded in secrecy, deception and lies, not what Canada is known for. It's taking hundreds of productive farmland acres out of production permanently. All the farmers who either bought out or were expropriated were forced to sign NDAs so that no one knew the farmer next door was getting paid more money per acre than their neighbour. There is also some shadiness that occurred with Elgin's former CAO Julie Gonyou and her parent's farm, which received the highest amount per acre... Is anyone looking into these back-door deals? When will the speculative buying end? When will we stop destroying prime farmland for development? This site is a black mark on the history of St. Thomas and Elgin County. Central Elgin will receive a paltry one-time sum for the stolen land and they expect residents to consider this to be good enough! The only thing that would be good enough is to return the lands to productive agricultural lands before this whole scheme goes too far forward. Our politicians only work for themselves, they are no longer representatives of the people and that is devastating.
