I am strongly opposed to the proposal for an interim combined sewer at Ontario Place).
I swim in the Lake for the better part of the year. I know others who do the same. And of course thousands swim at Toronto's beaches in the summer. But when I was young, no one swam in the Lake - it was too polluted. The City has worked hard to deal with sewage going into the Lake, with the result that some of the beaches are now "Blue Flag". There is still work to be done to improve the problem.
This proposal is a big step backward. Why would the province take steps that will impair the health of Torontonians and visitors to Toronto, not to mention the well-being of wildlife? The answer can only be because they don't care. Because it benefits the private sector.
Right now, the perception of the public is that the proposed Spa is a boondoggle for friends of the government. If you have any interest in countering that view, the best way to do so is to take steps that appear to be in the interest of the public, in this instance, by denying the permit.
