I am writing to express my strong opposition to the proposed landfill near Dresden. This project is a serious threat to our environment, our community, and our future.

There are multiple environmental concerns that have not been adequately addressed. The site is near sensitive natural areas, including watersheds and wildlife habitats. Introducing a large landfill here will disrupt ecosystems, threaten local species, and increase the risk of pollution. The fact that the environmental assessment has not been completed — and that the process was sidestepped by using a shell company — is unacceptable. The people of this region deserve a full and transparent environmental review before any decisions are made.

Traffic is another major issue. This landfill would bring a constant stream of garbage trucks through our rural roads, creating congestion, wear and tear, and serious safety hazards. This isn’t just about traffic — it’s about the quality of life in our small, peaceful community being degraded by industrial-scale waste hauling.

We’re also deeply concerned about odours. No one wants to live downwind from a landfill. The smell will affect daily life and damage the reputation of the area. Combined with falling property values, this project will do long-term harm to the economic health of our town. Families will suffer. Businesses will suffer.

This garbage is coming from far away, mostly from Toronto — and we’re expected to deal with the mess. Why should our rural community be the dumping ground for someone else’s problem? It’s wrong, plain and simple. Keep your garbage where it was created.

Our elected officials need to stand up for us. This landfill is not in the best interest of Dresden or Chatham-Kent. We need strong representation that prioritizes the health, safety, and voices of the people who live here.

This proposal must be stopped.
