I’m writing because I’m 100% against this landfill proposal near Dresden. This is completely wrong. You’re talking about putting a massive dump less than a kilometre from homes, schools, farms, and families — how can anyone think that’s okay? This land floods every single year, and all that water runs straight into Molly’s Creek, which has endangered species and connects to bigger rivers. If toxic runoff from the landfill gets in there, it could destroy everything downstream. Dresden is a quiet, close-knit community — people have lived here for generations, raising kids, farming, and building lives. Now we’re being told 700 trucks a day could be driving through our peaceful roads, past school buses and tractors, bringing dust, noise, pollution, and garbage into our town. And the company behind this? York1 has already been fined for environmental violations, had a worker die on one of their job sites, and failed to report where they were dumping dirt. How can we trust them with something this serious? This whole thing is being pushed through fast, trying to get around the rules by using outdated approvals from 50 years ago — even though the land isn’t even being used as a landfill anymore, it was a gun range and bomb disposal site. Bill 197 was passed to stop landfills from being built this close to towns, and now they’re trying to get around that too. We were promised a full Environmental Assessment, and now they want to take that away too? Just because of some possible U.S. garbage tariffs? That’s not a good enough reason to risk a whole community’s health, safety, water, air, and future. Everyone in Dresden is against this. The entire Chatham-Kent council is against this. Please don’t ignore us. We love our town, and we’re scared for what will happen if this gets approved. Don’t destroy a good, honest community to make room for Toronto’s garbage. Keep the Environmental Assessment, and stop this proposal.
