I strongly oppose the proposed amendments to the Endangered Species Act that would make it easier for corporations and government bodies to bypass critical environmental protections under the guise of streamlining infrastructure and pipeline development. While I understand the desire for efficiency and economic growth, these changes appear to prioritize short-term gains over the long-term health of our ecosystems and the species that depend on them.
The term "red tape" should not be used to diminish the importance of safeguards that exist to protect Ontario’s rich biodiversity. These measures are not bureaucratic obstacles—they are vital protections that ensure thoughtful stewardship of our natural heritage. Weakening them sends a clear message that convenience and profit are being placed above ecological responsibility.
If the intention behind these amendments were truly rooted in sustainability and respect for the natural world, the focus would be on strengthening, not diluting, environmental protections. Our endangered species cannot afford further compromises. Once lost, they cannot be brought back. I urge you to reconsider these changes and uphold the integrity of the Act for the sake of future generations.
