Haste makes waste.
Bill 5 is another act of provincial government overreach with emphasis that laws don't apply to us all equally.
Many of our regulations are written after great loss. They are designed to mitigate future disasters. To make as much money now as possible at the cost of the economy of those intending to still be in ontario in 10 years.
Protected lands are not just for aesthetics and tree huggers. They reduce the severity of droughts, forests fires and flooding. These disasters have been increasing in intensity every year. We can't afford to ignore their importance. The map of insurable homes keeps shrinking.
Walkerton e.coli disasters, boston molasses disaster, the challenger disaster - at the root were men who felt they knew better than the scientists and engineers, in the name of getting a project done quickly, and/or to save costs.
There are ways to help ontario economy that doesn't require such drastic disregard for ontario's health and longevity.
We need to do better than this.
