I am very concerned about the unprecedented powers this law would give to Cabinet to designate "special economic zones", exempting any area, project or proponent from all existing provincial and municipal laws and regulations. This is undemocratic and a threat to the rule of law.

The potential for projects the government favours, proposed by their "friends" and donors to be fast-tracked without public input and without adequate planning or consideration of the impacts on residents and the environment is simply too great.

Clearly, Ontario needs to strengthen our economy in the face of Trump's tariffs, but this must not come at the cost of people's health or the environment.

Without a healthy community and environment, economic prosperity is impossible. We must protect our democracy and the rule of law.
