I am incredibly disappointed and frightened of the implications of this proposal. It will gut the Endangered Species Act essentially allowing companies to destroy wildlife, vital habitat, and places Ontarians have loved for centuries. This is, again, a move to benefit a few very wealthy companies and individuals at the expense of all Ontarians, and the environmental future of this province. As a nature lover and outdoors-person, visiting the last real wilderness areas left in Ontario, seeking out the incredible species that call our province home and hiking through beautiful natural spaces is where I spend my time, and my money. For generations, people have fought to save species like the Piping Plover, the Woodland Caribou, the Algonquin Wolf (found almost exclusively in Ontario) and so many others. You would give energy projects carte blanche to destroy these species forever. This is exactly in line with Donald Trump's proposal to remove the word "harm" from the Endangered Species Act. You're allowing harm to happen, for short-term financial gain for a wealthy minority. Just like the Greenbelt Scandal. If Canada isn't for sale, and Ontario is not for sale, why are you selling off our priceless park land, species and wild areas to the highest bidders? For a government trying to distance themselves from US Republicans, you sound a lot like them. Please don't proceed with these changes. We want to keep Ontario beautiful.
