While I respect the intentions of this proposed bill, I do not think the ends justify the means. I see no reason why Ontario Place is included in this bill and find this measure to be underhanded. There is no valuable basis to remove Ontario Place from necessary public consultation, especially when it is known how many Toronto citizens are opposed to the project and that the vendor, Therme, has not been honest in its dealings with our government. Adding it to this act suggest foul play is at hand.
With respect to the remaining portions of the act, it would be irresponsible and unjust to pass this bill until the proposed new regulations are in place and approved as sufficient to support the removal of the endangered species act. Passing this bill without that step will leave open the window for projects to be approved without the necessary oversight which will violate the rights of indigenous communities and all of our province.
