My concern with this proposal is how it affects the Ontario Heritage Act. I understand the need for development to build housing and infrastructure but Ontario is a place where this should be done correctly with minimal impact to archaeology. We have access to archaeological resources in Ontario that doesn't exist anywhere else in the world. Archaeology does not slow down development projects. If developers plan correctly archaeological assessments are done quickly and add value to development projects. Compared to other parts of the world Canada is a young country and we should be investing in heritage to build our sense of identity. When archaeological site are damaged or destroyed there is no way to bring them back. Erasing and ignoring our heritage is simply just not in line with Ontario's values.
