As someone who grew up in social housing, in deep poverty, I know firsthand how critical it is to have access to safe, stable, affordable housing. Without it, my family would have been unhoused.

Housing is not a privilege—it is a basic human right. What we are witnessing in Hamilton right now, with rising homelessness and families sleeping in encampments, is a failure of our systems. It is unacceptable in a country as wealthy as Canada.

This project represents a long-overdue step toward addressing this crisis. We need more affordable housing, and we need it urgently. I urge the minister to move this project forward without delay. It is an opportunity to do what is right—for families, for dignity, and for the future of our communities.
