Devil’s Glen is where I fell in love with climbing. It’s a beautiful area with so much to enjoy! I met various other climbers there who were always kind and respectful. Out of the many weekends I spent there I never witnessed belligerence from climbers, as the property owners seem to claim. All I saw were groups of friends laughing, climbing, and respectfully enjoying a public park. I loved spending my Saturdays there with my husband, enjoying nature and spending quality time together. But, that all changed once a property owner started threatening climbers safety: approaching them with rage, posting “no climbing” signage, throwing debris into the approach area, and worst of all - clipping the bolts on climbing routes, which is extremely dangerous. There were several times where we could not climb there due the the path being blocked intentionally or reports of climbers being approached and harassed. We all deserve to enjoy the outdoors, and devils glen is a beautiful place to do that. Nobody should ever feel afraid to access a park. Recognizing climbing at Devils Glen will help keep everyone in the community safe, and encourage everyone to get outside!
