I am extremely pleased to see this proposal for amendment, specifically in regard to the formal addition of rock climbing management plans. Rock climbing has become an extremely popular sport worldwide and having local opportunities to participate in the sport is very valuable to the community. Devil’s Glen in particular offers some of the highest quality climbing in the province and is a wonderful resource for recreation.

I have travelled to many climbing areas around the world and have observed that when the government empowers and works in cooperation with the climbing community, the impacts can be very positive. Most climbers value conservation and have goals in close alignment with the preservation of parks and natural areas.

I am deeply appreciative of this proposal and hope that this can pave the way for the future addition of sustainable rock climbing opportunities in other parks. For many of us, enjoying our local outdoor recreation spaces is one of the greatest joys in life, and seeing that the government supports these interests makes us feel respected and valued. Decisions like these help people to take pride in the province and work to make it a better place, rather than moving to other areas in search of a more supportive community. I am excited to see what the future of recreation in Ontario may hold.
