Protecting at-risk birds matters to me because the birds themselves matter. They have an intrinsic worth. Their survival should not be shoved aside for anthropogenic reasons. Our economy should be strong, yes, but not at the risk of another species. It's not up to us to decide who gets to live and who doesn't. As a result, Doug Ford and his party should NOT be trying to implement this bill. We should be investing in conservation of these birds and their habitats to protect them. Really, think about it. Does it make you feel better that you're killing off birds, animals, organisms, for your own benefit? Do you genuinely have that ability, the power, to choose?
Protect the birds. Nature has been proven to benefit people's psychological health, so there wouldn't be too much need for mental health funding.
Protect the birds. You were chosen to enact policies and represent Ontario. Ontario would not have its identity without the 9 million hectares of nature and protected areas. We are one of the most biodiverse provinces in Canada. To destroy that would not only destroy an integral part of our identity, but inhabitants of Ontario too.
Protect the birds. Not because you want to be a good person or benefit the economy, but simply because they live on this land.
Once again, it is not in your power to control the survival of an entire species.
