I'm getting really upset with the amount of support that goes to corporations. Money is not the only thing in this world that matters.
This ON government who ran their platform on "For the People" when it should have been "For the Corporation" cause truly nothing is being done "for the people".
At what point are we going to care? Not after millions and millions get spent on forest fire services (in 2024 $171M from the MNRF plus another $135 from the ON Gov), the flooding of the Don Valley ($940 Million in damage), the year after year of record breaking heat waves that cause heat related death and illness, drought and dry conditions and so forth. Do these things not matter?
There are other projects that will create jobs and eco sustainability. We need to be creating protects now, not dismantling the ones we have. To be responsible to a society and the land is to be fair to all not just to consider the needs of wealthy corporations.
I am writing as a constituent in [your riding] to express my deep concern and opposition to Bill 5 — the Protect Ontario by Unleashing our Economy Act, 2025. I believe this legislation poses serious risks to our environment, our municipal democracy, Indigenous rights, and the long-term health of our province.
Some key points of concern:
Exemption of laws and regulations via “special economic zones”.
Bill 5 would empower the government to designate “special economic zones” in which approved projects or “trusted proponents” may be exempted from application of multiple laws, regulations, and municipal by-laws.

This effectively creates the possibility of “law-free” zones where environmental assessment, public consultation, Indigenous consultation, and municipal input may be bypassed.

Weakened protections for species and ecosystems.
The bill proposes to repeal or significantly weaken the Endangered Species Act, 2007 and replace it with a new Species Conservation Act, 2025 that many fear will lack enforceable protections.

This puts at risk the biodiversity and habitats of Ontario — undermining conservation efforts, local communities, and future generations.
Reduced transparency and public accountability.
Under Bill 5, exemptions and changes to laws can be made by regulation or order without adequate oversight, public input or independent review.

That means citizens, municipalities, and Indigenous nations may have diminished ability to meaningfully participate in decisions affecting their land, environment, and well-being.
Undermining municipal authority and local democracy.
By allowing provincial regulation to override municipal by-laws and local planning decisions within the special economic zones, Bill 5 reduces the role and voice of communities in shaping their own future.
PSAC Ontario
Lack of adequate Indigenous consultation and rights recognition.
Many Indigenous communities and organizations have publicly expressed concern about Bill 5’s potential to bypass established rights, treaty obligations and meaningful engagement.
NFU-O National Farmers Union of Ontario
A development path that does not fully respect Indigenous rights and sovereignty is neither sustainable nor just.
In view of the above, I urge you and your government to pause, review and withdraw Bill 5, or at minimum amend it significantly so that:
Any special economic zone designation must be subject to full environmental assessment, Indigenous free, prior and informed consent, municipal input, and local consultation.
Endangered species and habitat protections remain strong, enforceable, science-based, and not subject to being overridden by cabinet decree.
Transparency, accountability and public participation are central, not optional.
Municipalities retain meaningful planning authority and local communities are not sidelined.
Indigenous rights, treaty obligations, and community consent are treated as foundational, not as after-thoughts.
Ontario’s economic future and prosperity should not require sacrificing our environment, our communities, or our democratic institutions. Development and economic growth can and must proceed in a way that is responsible, sustainable, inclusive, and respectful of rights — not by eroding protections and stacking the deck for rapid, unchecked special-interest-driven projects.
Thank you for considering my concerns. I would appreciate receiving a response outlining how your office will ensure that Bill 5 does not compromise the rights, environment, and democratic voice of the people of Ontario.
