Once again, the Ford government is prioritizing exploiting Ontario's delicate ecology and natural resources to offer them to priority buddies. The proposed changes not only overwrite critical protections with corrupt decisionmaking with no oversight, they mortgage the future and welfare of generations of Ontarians.
There is no benefit other than private profit extraction to narrowing the definitions of species at risk habitat. According the government discretion to remove species from the at risk list without expert oversight is irresponsible and perilous to the health of our ecosystems. Abandoning requirements for industry or 'development partners' to provide researched and validated recovery strategies and ecological management is not only foolhardy, it's reckless.
Rewriting and erasing critical protection laws to suit the profitmaking interests of the political party leading government is cowardly, shameful, embarrassing, and decidedly not leadership in the interests of Ontarians, their families, or the safety of their land, water, and air. Defaulting to profit-making priorities under the guise of economic development is a shameful masquerade to cover short and long term harm to all of us who call this province home.
