RE: Proposed Boundary Changes to Conservation Authorities.

Nov 21, 2025

I am an Ontario resident who lives in the Township of Rideau Lakes. We are served by the Cataraqui Regional Conservation Authority. I have consulted with this CA from time to time and always found their service to be top notch.

Our CA currently has to cover a huge area and has limited resources to do so but somehow they manage to have an excellent understanding of our area.

The conservation authorities of Ontario have a very long history and we should be proud of the work they do. We should also have great respect for the good people that established these institutions and understand why they structured it the way they did.

I absolutely object to the concept of consolidating the CA as proposed. Local knowledge is key and the more granular the structure can be, the better. Given the increasing population of Ontario and increasing environmental risks, logic would dictate that more CAs would be the direction not less.

I am aware that the Ontario government has already reduced the role and authority of the CA in the municipal planning process. In view of these recent cuts, this latest plan really just looks like a government that has no interest in safety and the quality of our environment. I am very disappointed in this proposed change.
