I think the Provincial Governments plan to merge our 36 conservation authorities into 7 is yet an other example of this governments complete disregard for environmental protection and by extent, the health of the Ontario population. It is clear that this government does not try to fully understand the reason why these unique conservation authorities are import for freshwater management and flood protection. Conservation authorities are divided to protect the unique sub watersheds in Ontario. These sub watersheds are have different requirements for protection. Merging these conservation authorities will lose the fine scale protections in place to protect these sub watersheds and the major watersheds in Ontario. We will lose the perspectives and knowledge gained in these individual authorities. This will limit the protection of lakes, rivers, and floodplains and the plants, animals and people who depend on them. I think the argument that having fewer conservative authorities will speed up development in these regions is false and will result in the opposite. I cannot stress enough the importances of maintaining the 36 conservation authorities found in Ontario.
