The complete replacement of Essex Region Conservation Authority, including their management, is a welcome change. Their corruption and mismanagement has and continues to negatively impact the local environment. They defied their mandate by building a large event space on a historic heritage site in an encoligally sensitive area to directly compete with local businesses. They prevent land owners from protecting their shorelines with arbitrary corrupt decisions which has directly resulted in thousands of tonnes of soil eroding into Lake Erie and other waterways. Relatives of their own employees have conducted construction projects bypassing permits required for everyone else. They have granted massively over-reaching shoreline construction permits for some wealthy well connected individiy while blocking basic shoreline protection measures for others. They deny public access to large tracts of land for even the most basic outdoor recreation. They want to block access to those with health challenges and disabilities from riding e-bikes on their trail system while simultaneously allowing horses to deficate on other walking/cycling trails. A regional conservation authority needs to clean up the corruption, mismanagement and incompetence while allowing land owners to protect their properties the way they see fit and give the public access to their public lands for all types of outdoor recreation.
