While I do understand that Changes for streamlining and efficiencies are needed. I do have concerns as to how the municipal representation happens. Some of these areas are so vast and will undoubtably will lose representation to the authorities and to the province. There is also concerns with cost implications to these authorities on whom will bear the costs of these changes. I also question how these changes will truly impact home building, and other infrastructure projects and if they will weaken standards to ensure the safety of the people in the province when it comes to Flood Management.
I would propose that while amalgamation may be effective in helping to streamline processes and provide efficiencies, in its current form the proposed changes are heavy handed, and further consultation be down. I would also suggest if amalgamation were to move forward, it moves forward with a better division of watershed areas. For example, 12-15 instead of the proposed 7.
With all that said, it is recommend that further consultations be had and input from member municipalities be heard as these changes will have substantial impact on them.
