As a long-term resident of the Bay of Quinte area, the proposed consolidation of regional conservation authorities is concerning to me. The auditor general recently found that the provincial government "routinely ignores environmental consultations." This in and of itself is concerning. There should be transparent information about pros and cons of this change, from multiple perspectives (not just the provincial government). There is little factual information provided to support current claims.
The changes involve significantly sized geographical areas being lumped together. It is extremely difficult to see how less direct oversight and less involvement within the community can benefit each individual area at all. There is no clear explanation on how this eliminates the strain/disorganization of the current system. It seems to stretch resources thinner. There is no clear explanation/proposal on what restructuring could or would look like. When I reached out to my MPP, I was told that the new structure would involve municipal input and positions. Clearer information on this would be so beneficial.
At the very least, supporting information should be given for these assertions.
Thank you.
