I am very concerned and much opposed to the proposal to consolidate ON Conservation Authorities. The region in which I live has experienced significant growth and at the same time serious drought. The monitoring performed and the guidance given by our local conservation authorities has been invaluable. As a rural resident, I am thankful when I see the marked vehicles and staff out conducting their work. Knowing they are locally situated and that they have in-depth knowledge and experience in my neighbourhood is somewhat comforting given the rapidly changing landscape and threats to our water, wildlife, forests. The unpresented development threatens the safeguards that nature naturally provides so it is vital that local conservation authorities are included in the conversation. I can see absolutely no reason for the Government of Ontario to proceed with this action - except to further tip the scales against communities in favour of unfettered development most likely to benefit multinational companies. Conservation authorities can be a partner to help limit impacts on local ecosystems and to educate residents and businesses alike as to minimizing damage and preserving what we can for future generations while building Ontario.
