I strongly oppose the proposed consolidation of Ontario's conservation authorities, and shift to a regional model.
This plan has been rightly opposed by expert stakeholders throughout the conservation and environmental sector, all of whom recognize the importance of local expertise and close working municipal relationships. They have clearly articulated all of the good work, community connections, and well-functioning systems that are jeopardized by this unnecessary consolidation. I implore you to review their comments and suggestions, particularly those submitted by the Conservation Authorities.
None of the provincial government's proposed objectives require consolidation of the current conservation authorities. The redrawing of the boundaries does not serve the interests of citizens, is not responsible science, and does not represent best practice in environmental stewardship.
This change does not serve the best interests of Ontarians and the watersheds we all rely on. It reflects poorly on this government to proceed with this change when it has been so strongly opposed by experts in the field.
