My comments are based on almost 40 years working in senior and mediation roles for infrastructure development, energy projects and mineral prospecting, and as a member of a municipal committee of adjustment. This work brought me into frequent contact with Local Conservation Authorities (LCA) across southern Ontario.
There is no compelling benefit of amalgamating the existing LCA’s. In fact, doing so will create administrative and bureaucratic inefficiencies due to organizational uncertainty, less knowledge of nuanced local conditions and disruption of existing working relationships with entities who presently interact with “their” LCA. This is the opposite of what the government ostensibly seeks to achieve, and importantly, is a risk to discharging the Honour of the Crown in meaningful consultation and building positive relations with First Nation and Métis governments and their communities.
Please stop what is clearly a wrong-headed effort at streamlining for the sake of commercial interest stakeholders.
