I do not support the plan to consolidate Ontario's conservation authorities. The proposed consolidation does not consider the unique environmental needs of Ontario. We have a diverse range of ecosystems in Ontario, and each requires a different approach to management due to these differences. For example, in the proposed plan, the new Lake Erie Regional Conservation Authority ranges from Essex County all the way to the edge of the Niagara Escarpment. The environments and the needs of the people in those regions are different, and a single body managing them in the same way will not result in the quality of environmental stewardship we currently receive. The concern is that this new large conservation authority will be spread to thin and be too far removed from many of the regions it manages to be able to provide the required level of management to maintain our environment. In summary I do not support the proposal to consolidate Ontario's conservation authorities. My concerns lie with the potential for reduced capacity to adequately manage our environment, and the loss of local insight our current system provides.
