Conservation Authorities are not a fragmented system, but rather specialized service providers tailored to their specific Watersheds. Consolidation will lose the local expertise on communities that rely on them the most. In the name of quicker "shovels in the ground" for Doug Ford's massive plan to expand on residential and commercial expansion is a huge oversight on environmental concerns in the name of profit. It's short sighted. Communities need experts making these environmental decisions backed with science and experience. Standardization and amalgamation will result is poorer quality service decisions. Ultimately, I do not think that this is a good proposal for Ontario and our communities.
Additionally, I agree with Hamilton Conservation Authority, and other Conservation Areas submissions to the ERO. I am concerned about losing local decision-making and I support keeping conservation decisions rooted in our community.
