900,000 plus Say NO!! This proposal for an increase in ethanol to 15% is a huge mistake and will cost tens of thousands of dollars to both collector car owners as well as collector vehicle businesses. The collector car hobby in Canada is well in excess of 450,000 documented owners. Many vehicles have trouble using E10 let alone the purposed E15. The reasons are very straight forward: phase separation, the fuel separates when it sits in a fuel tank over the winter months. It causes rustouts in fuel tanks. It destroys rubber components in carburetor systems. The damage list is very extensive and easily verified.
Several major organizations across Canada have done the research and can verify the comments above. Collector cars are not going away. They are driven extensively during the summer months. Collector car owners account for over tens of millions of dollars to local economies. They provide huge input to charities. By increasing this ethanol content to lower octane fuel you will be seriously affecting generations of vehicle owners in the future. Probably the biggest negative about shorter chain alcohol fuels for everyday domestic use however stems from their polar molecules which attract H20 and readily form aqueous solutions which can cause a whole host of problems with engine systems and operations. In conclusion, there is a much bigger picture that is being overlooked with mandated E15.
Future fuel supply with little or no alcohol is disappearing. This a very big concern for vintage vehicle owners. 450,000 individual owners have families, spouses or partners. Nine hundred thousand plus is a large number of voters to overlook. Respectively submitted .
